President's Message

Bienvenidos

As President-elect for 2011-2012, I graciously thank you for supporting the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America in general and the Fray Angélico Chávez-Pueblo Chapter in particular. Because of your support, regardless of your longevity, from a new member to a long standing member, this coming June will be our Twenty-second anniversary - a milestone we all can be proud of. Thank you, founding members. Since then, the most popular use of the computer in genealogical research is searching the internet, but the end result still remains the same: 'show casing' our family history. Our family history is a never-ending story. It is our responsibility and duty to share and pass on our family history to the next generation; they too will unfold new family histories. After that, the never-ending story continues. Nuestro pasado es nuestro futuro.

I am looking forward to a positive and productive tenure. I can do this with your help; by sharing your ideas for the betterment of our Chapter and your concerns on how to improve our Chapter. If we work together, stand together and volunteer together, good things can happen. This New Year is a time for a fresh start - both in everyday life and your genealogy pursuits. By now you should have formulated your genealogy resolutions, such as getting organized, drafting a plan of action, but importantly, spend time with your elders before it's too late. Once they are gone, it's analogous to a library burning down. It is not too surprising to find out; searching our family history isn't a game of instant gratification. For some, it takes months, even years - it takes patience and persistence - after all, you've got hundreds of years of family history to uncover.

As we embark on our Twenty-second year of providing a helping hand; Our Purpose as a genealogical Chapter "is to promote on-going genealogical research; comprised of the study of family history, tracing lineages, and recording ancestral information." Good luck as you pursue your family history and may your family tree be the size of a Mustard Tree. Thank you.

President
